The Sublette Larks baseball team lost its Class 2A state tournament quarterfinal game, 12-2, to Olathe-Heritage Christian Academy on Thursday at Emporia Soden's Grove.

The Larks, who were making their third state appearance in the last four seasons, finish their season with a 13-9 record. They had won their regional title last week in Elkhart and had won nine of their previous 10 games.

The Larks were limited to just two hits by Heritage winning pitcher Josh Hough.

Defensive miscues proved costly to the Larks, as they committed four errors. Heritage managed just seven hits off losing pitcher Trevor Leverett, who finished the season with a 4-3 record.

Heritage jumped out early, scoring four runs in each of the first and second innings for an 8-0 lead, and then extended it to 10-0 with two more runs in the third.

Sublette finally got on the scoreboard with a single run in the fourth and another in the fifth. Heritage tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth frames.

One of Sublette's two hits came on a double by Leverett.

In other quarterfinal games, all one-run decisions, top-seeded St. Paul defeated Medicine Lodge, 1-0; Ell-Saline squeaked past Valley

Falls, 2-1, in eight innings while No. 2-seeded Sedan took a 3-2 decision from Inman.

Today's semifinal games will pit St. Paul against Ell-Saline at 11 a.m. and Sedan facing Heritage Christian Academy at 1:30 p.m. The championship game is slated to start at 6:30 p.m., with the third-place game set for 4 p.m.
