Thayer, Campbell compete in KWGA Amateur tourney

A pair of local golfers finished in the first flight Thursday at the 2013 Kansas Women's Golf Association's Amateur Championship at Auburn Hills Golf Course in Wichita.

Garden City's Mackenzie Thayer finished in fifth in the first flight with a three-day total of 246. She saved her best day for last, shooting 82-85-79. Abbey Campbell, also of Garden City, signed her final card with a score of 258, 85-88-85, to finish in 10th in the first flight.

Lauren Falley of Topeka was the amateur grand champion, scoring the two lowest scores of the tournament with a 71 on Tuesday and a 70 on Wednesday. She regressed some on day three with a 76, but was still able to take the title over Gianna Misenhelter of Overland Park, who shot a 222 (74-72-76).
