Leon S. Ditus, 92, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at St. Catherine Hospital.

Leon S. Ditus, 92, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at St. Catherine Hospital.

He was born Feb. 18, 1922, at Burdett to Carl Fredrick and Marie Elizabeth Thell Ditus.

A graduate of Burdett High School, Ditus served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was involved in farming, an International Harvester dealership, and was an auctioneer at sale barns in McCook, Neb., Burlington, Colo., and Burdett.

He moved to Garden City in 1975 and gauged gas wells for the Kansas Corporation Commission until retirement.

He married Lorena M. Smith on July 5, 1941, at Garfield. She preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Verner F. Ditus and William C. Ditus; and an infant sister, Nellie Lois Ditus.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas and Sharon K. Ditus of Elizabeth, Colo., Gregory S. and Glenda M. Ditus of Fort Collins, Colo., and Fredrick G. and Vonah A. Ditus of Hawaii; a daughter, Jeannie S. Ryan of Garden City; a brother-in-law, Lewis Smith of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will be at Browns Grove Cemetery in Burdett.

Memorials are suggested to the Masonic Lodge in care of the funeral home.
