ELKHART — James Gene "Grumpy" "Red" Garner, 83, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at the Morton County Care Center, Elkhart.

ELKHART — James Gene "Grumpy" "Red" Garner, 83, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at the Morton County Care Center, Elkhart.

He was born June 8, 1930, at Norton to James Edward and Sylvia Elizabeth (Brooke) Garner.

He was a lifelong Morton County resident and attended school in Richfield. He was a road grader operator for the Morton County road department.

Garner served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include a son, James Garner of Beatrice, Neb.; a daughter, Julie Moon of Tyron, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Garner; and a daughter, Janell Garner.

Graveside service is 2 p.m. today at the Richfield Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the Morton County Care Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 514 Kansas Ave., Elkhart, KS 67950.
