ELLSWORTH — Floyd W. Kempke, 84, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Home in Ellsworth.

ELLSWORTH — Floyd W. Kempke, 84, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Home in Ellsworth.

He was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Ellsworth to Robert Sr. and Myrtle Beagley Kempke.

He was a lifetime Ellsworth County resident. He graduated from Lorraine High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War.

He worked as a John Deere mechanic for Shanelec Implement, Lloyd Implement, Smoky Hill Implement, and Robl Farm Supply, and also farmed during retirement.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and VFW Post 6485, both of Ellsworth.

He married Shirley Headley on Nov. 6, 1955 in Ellsworth. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Richard, Robert and Merle; and a great-grandson, Chaunchai Vongphakdy.

Survivors include two sons, Jerald Kempke and his wife, Debi, of Garden City, and Jimmy Kempke of Ellsworth; two daughters, Janet Dolezal and her husband, Gary, of Kanapolis, and Judy Lyon and her husband, Matthew, of Great Bend; two brothers, Earl Kempke and his wife, Fern, of Ellsworth, and Howard Kempke and his wife, Marcene, of Marquette; 10 grandchildren, Michael Kempke and his wife, Christi, of Garden City, Steve Kempke and partner, Brian, of Cimarron; Aimee Johnson and her husband, Doug, of Lyons, Sara Hammel and her husband, Jason, of Salina, Lisa Dolezal of Olathe, Adam and his wife, Mychel, of Ellsworth, Melissa Vongphakdy and her husband, Long, of Lawrence, Andy Schultz and his wife, Lynsey, of Kanopolis, Nikki Kempke and Carrie Kempke, both of Wilson; 10 great-grandchildren, Colby, Ava and Brady Kempke; Jailynn, Taylie and Hayden Hammel; Mykena Dolezal; Vincent Vongphakdy; and Jazzy and Owen Schultz; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Ellsworth, with Pastor Theresa Forshee officiating. Casual attire is requested. Burial at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the church, Ellsworth VFW Post 6485, or the Ellsworth Volunteer Fire Department, in care of the funeral home.
