Socorro Chavez, 69, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Homestead Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Center in Garden City.

Socorro Chavez, 69, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Homestead Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Center in Garden City.

She was born Feb. 20, 1944, to Pedro Gonzalez and Cresencia Salas at Vicente Guerrero, Durango, Mexico.

She married Miguel Chavez on Sept. 1, 1959, at Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Mrs. Chavez and her husband moved to Garden City in 2009.

Survivors include her husband; eight children, Olivia Hernandez of Garden City, Alfredo Chavez of Juarez, Mexico, Salvador Chavez of Garden City, Hortencia Valdez of Amarillo, Texas, Ofelia Jimenez of Salina, Jose Antonio Chavez of Midland, Texas, Miguel Chavez of Amarillo, and Patricia Flores of Garden City; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Leticia Chavez.

There will be no calling hours. A private family memorial service and rosary has taken place at Garnand Funeral Home.

Memorials can be give to the Socorro Chavez Memorial Fund.
