Derrick Emilio Martinez, 23, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Derrick Emilio Martinez, 23, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born May 4, 1990 in Garden City.

Mr. Martinez lived most of his life in Garden City, where he attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 2009. He then attended Garden City Community College. Derrick worked as Fertilizer Technician for Blicks. He also worked at Trade Home Shoes, the Buckle, and Sonic. He was a member of the Garden City Family YMCA and the Garden City Recreation Commission.

He was preceded in death by his biological father Juan Hernandez.

He moved to Tribune in 2012, where he has lived since. He loved working out.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Aleman of Tribune; one son, Brayden Zane of Tribune; his parents, Eugene and Deanna Martinez, both of Garden City; one brother, Juan Martinez of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Adelita Elaine Martinez, Garden City; and his grandmother, Carmen Elizarraras of Duncanville, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Church in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

The family requests memorials given to the Derrick Martinez Benefit, in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
