MONTEZUMA — Mildred M. Hood, 100, formerly of Montezuma, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.

She was born March 24, 1913, in Hudson, to Arnold C. and Martha Uhlemann Hitz. She graduated from Montezuma Rural High School in 1931.

On June 23, 1933, she married F. Milton Hood. He died in 1971. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Hood; a sister, Rachel; a brother, Vernon; and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Gruver of Holton, and Carol Giesbrecht of Burns; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Montezuma United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma.

Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. today at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the guest book at In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Montezuma United Methodist Church or the Southwest Kansas Association for the Visually Impaired, both in care of the funeral home.
