ONAGA — Alberta Dover, formerly of Garden City, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Eastridge Nursing Facility in Centralia.

She was born Dec. 8, 1919, at Dodge City, the daughter of A.S. and Edna Coffee Ardery. She graduated from Copeland High School and Dodge City Community College.

Alberta was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Elkhart, then Garden City. She was very active in the church, participating in various food ministries of the church and with SAM's, a senior group at the church.

She had worked as a switch board operator in Elkhart in the 1960s and '70s. She was a secretary for the nurses continuing education department for the University of Kansas and did various other secretarial jobs. She was a nanny for many children, who knew her as "Aunt Bertie." She also served as a night hostess for many years at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

Alberta was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Dover; a daughter, who died in infancy; and two brothers, Raymond Ardery and Russell Ardery.

Survivors include two sons, Dwayne Dover and wife Frances of Borger, Texas, and David Dover and wife Cassie of Onaga; two sisters, Sadie Kleysteuber and Eldora Kleysteuber, both of Garden City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga. Burial will follow in the Onaga Cemetery. Alberta will lie in state after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Eastridge Nursing Facility and may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 312, Onaga, KS 66521.
