Barbara Jane Schaffer, 74, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

She was born Feb. 15, 1939, in Garden City, to Harry and Martha Joanne Terhune Harms.

Mrs. Schaffer was a lifetime resident of Garden City.

On Oct. 25, 1955, she married Ivan Schaffer in Garden City. He died Dec. 10, 1983. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Randall and Brian Schaffer; and a grandson.

Survivors include four children, Mark Schaffer of Fort Dodge, Mike Schaffer of Wichita, and Curtis Schaffer and Christina Knoll, both of Garden City; a sister, H. Deane Peat of Garden City; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at her daughter's home, 2001 Juniper Lane in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the guest book at Memorials to the Barbara Schaffer Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
