HUGOTON — James P. Dewey, 93, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.

HUGOTON — James P. Dewey, 93, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.

He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Grove, Okla., to Theron and Minnie Snider Dewey.

A Hugoton resident since March 2008, Mr. Dewey was retired after working for Phillips Petroleum. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

On Dec. 11, 1970, he married Maxine Swan in Hugoton. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Patricia Brooks of Spring, Texas; two stepsons, Gary Porter of Hugoton, and Steven Porter of Ulysses; a stepdaughter, Nancy Claggett of Peoria, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Leonard, Raymond, Thomas and George Dewey; and two sisters, Betty Jo Anthony and Opal Snydahl.

Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. today at My Father's House, Hugoton. Burial will be at Hugoton Cemetery.

Paul's Funeral Home of Hugoton is in charge of arrangements.
