Israel J. "Ray" Ramirez, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

Israel J. "Ray" Ramirez, 71, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Jan. 27, 1943, in Alleyton, Texas, to Camilo and Janie Perez Ramirez.

A longtime resident of Garden City, Mr. Ramirez was a retired punch and saw operator for Heyco Inc., Garden City. He was a member of the Garden City Bowling Association and was an avid golfer and poker player.

On May 25, 1964, he married Frances Rayas in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Camilo "Ray Ray" and wife Tara Ramirez of Jacksonville, Fla., Alfred and wife Kara Ramirez of Newark, Del., and Phat and wife Thao Pham of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Trina Esquivel and companion Jorge of Garden City; seven grandsons, Isaac Esquivel of Garden City, Romelo Ramirez and Maeson Ramirez, both of Newark, Miguel Ramirez of Jacksonville, and Michael Pham, Anthony Pham and Nicholas Pham, all of Fort Worth; four granddaughters, Crystal Ibarra, Michelle Martinez and Marisa Martinez, all of Garden City, and Isabella Ramirez of Jacksonville; and two great-grandchildren, Alazai Ibarra and Erik Lucas Lee, both of Garden City. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tami Martinez.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. Inurnment services will be held at a later date.
