Barbara J. McKenna, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Homestead Assisted Living Center in Garden City.

Barbara J. McKenna, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Homestead Assisted Living Center in Garden City.

She was born March 30, 1938, in Herington, to Tom and Winona Strohmeier Holzmeister.

A resident of Garden City since 1973, Mrs. McKenna was a paraprofessional for USD 457 for many years and retired as a childcare provider. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Church Choir, Senior Center of Finney County and the Community Choir and was a volunteer at Edith Scheuerman Elementary School, all in Garden City.

In 1957, she married Daniel McKenna in Salina. He died in 2011 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas and Angela McKenna of Andover, and Daniel and Sharla McKenna of Bend, Ore.; three daughters, Kathy and Marv Gorsky of Topeka, Maureen and Tim Krantz of Garden City, and Patricia and Gerald Gallegos of Colorado Springs; a sister, Beth Commerford of Salina; 13 grandchildren, Erika Schaffer, Khara Loeppke, Cole Proffitt, Jason Proffitt, Austin McKenna, Katie McKenna, Aubrey McKenna, Stephanie Mulligan, Erin McKenna, Matthew McKenna, Isaac Stowe, Michael Gallegos and Zach Gallegos; and five great-grandchildren, Riley Loeppke, Ava Grace Schaffer, McKenna Schaffer, Frank Scheffer III and BamBam Witt.

Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. A Memorial Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Salina.

There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent to Memorials to the Barbara McKenna Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St., Garden City, KS 67846.
