KGS plans free day at library

KGS plans free day at library

"A Day At The Library" is scheduled for Thursday, with members from the Kansas Genealogical Society helping attendees learn about the resources available at the KGS Library found in the lower level of the Village Square Mall in Dodge City.

Local members volunteer their time and services to maintain the library, as well as provide open periods for the public. Open periods are Tuesday by appointment; 1:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; and 10:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays. Members of the public pay a fee of $3 for a day of research, while members of KGS and KSDAR may use the facility during those periods for no fee.

During Thursday's free day at the library, there will be short informative sessions to explain the items available in the library and how to access them. Attendees will be able to browse both libraries, meet fellow genealogists and have an opportunity to win prizes. There will be data indexes available for demonstration, as well as a demonstration of the Library Catalog, which is on the KGS computers. Anyone with an interest in historical or family research is welcome to attend the session from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Over the last 50 years, the KGS/KSDAR Library has been a service made available by the KGS membership.
