Middle Schools have SADD Shines Day
The Garden City middle school's Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapters will celebrate SADD Shines Day on Wednesday.
There will be a lantern lighting ceremony at at 5:45 p.m. in Harold Long Park and an official proclamation from Garden City will be read designating Wednesday as "SADD Shines Day." After the lighting ceremony, there will be a walk around the park.
SADD Shines: Youth Lighting the Way, raises awareness of the power of positive peer engagement. The lighting ceremony celebrates what SADD does and is an occasion to remember those who have been hurt or injured by a destructive decision. The national day celebrates a positive way of life for teens. SADD has been empowering youth and creating positive change for 32 years. On SADD Shines Day, chapters across the country participate and show their spirit.
Founded as Students Against Driving Drunk in 1981, SADD broadened its mission in 1997, and now addresses other issues affecting youth besides impaired driving, including underage drinking, tobacco and other drugs and teen violence and suicide.
