Area restaurants, professional chefs and community members are invited to create their best salsa recipe and present it at the Garden City Arts Gallery, 318 N. Main St., during the 2013 Hot As You Want Salsa Challenge from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Entries will be divided into two groups: restaurants and professional chefs; and amateurs. Top honors will be awarded in each division, $100 will go to first place in amateur and a plaque to the top restaurateur or chef. Creations may be hot, mild, traditional or fruit salsas, and community members are encouraged to bring in their favorite family recipe.

The public is invited to participate as judges. A sampler plate will be available for $5 and comes with a plate of chips and a sampling of entries.

The challenge is one of several events planned by GCA as part of the 2013 Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Arts & Culture Festival. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/DiaDeLosMuertosGardenCity, call (620) 260-9700 or email gardencityarts@gmail.com.
