GCHS to host iPad orientation sessions

Garden City High School will hold a number of orientation sessions to issue iPads to freshmen and new students for the coming school year. All the orientation sessions will be held in the GCHS auditorium, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

Garden City High School will hold a number of orientation sessions to issue iPads to freshmen and new students for the coming school year. All the orientation sessions will be held in the GCHS auditorium, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

Orientation for freshmen and new students is scheduled for: 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13; 5 to 7 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. Aug. 15; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 16; and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 19.

Freshmen and new students must attend the orientation to be issued an iPad. Parents are encouraged to attend, but it is not mandatory. Students must be enrolled and must have paid the $30 iPad insurance fee to receive one. Students should create an Apple ID before school starts.

Returning students who are enrolled and have paid the iPad insurance fee can be reissued a device at the iPad Support Room. Before the iPad is reissued, the student must pay a deductible if an iPad was damaged the previous year.

The checkout process may take up to 10 minutes. Distribution is scheduled for the following days and times: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, and Tuesday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 8; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 12; 12:30 to 5 p.m. Aug. 15; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 14 and Thursday, Aug. 15; and 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19.

Students who do not pick up an iPad during one of the scheduled times will have it issued to them before or after school at the iPad Support Room. The first day of school is Aug. 19, with a half-day orientation for all students in kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth grade and all students new to Garden City Public Schools. The first full day of school is Aug. 20, when all classes will be in session for the start of the 2013-14 school year.
