Two Garden City residents have been recognized with special awards from the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland for extraordinary service as volunteers.

Candace Waltz and Alicia Ramirez both received the Volunteer of Excellence Award, which is given to Girl Scout volunteers who display excellent service in delivering the Girl Scout mission as they work directly with girls in a troop, camp or other activity.

Waltz and Ramirez are among 85 volunteers being honored this month with awards from the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Council, which serves more than 16,500 members in 80 Kansas counties.
