Dinner Wednesday to benefit area veterans

Dinner Wednesday to benefit area veterans

A free dinner for all first responders and veterans will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the VFW, 1105 W. Mary St. A free-will donation will be accepted for all others to enjoy the meal.

Proceeds from the dinner will go to area veterans.

Two musical programs scheduled this week

Two musical programs are scheduled this week at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St.

Old-time fiddle music featuring Garden City brothers Joe and Jon Irsik will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, "Gospel Gold" from Dodge City and Montezuma will present a program.

The public is encouraged to attend at no charge. For more information, call 275-5036.

State council seeking hosts for exhibition

The Kansas Humanities Council is seeking six Kansas hosts for the 2015 Kansas tour of the Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition, "Hometown Teams." Museums, public libraries, art centers and other nonprofit cultural organizations are invited to apply by Sept. 30. The eligibility requirements and application form are available at

"Hometown Teams" explores the ways sports build and unite communities through photographs, hands-on components and audio/video clips from the Smithsonian Institution.

The KHC sponsors the Kansas tour of "Hometown Teams" in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on Main Street, a one-of-a-kind cultural project that serves small towns and residents of rural communities.¬
