Reconstruction of Main Street’s intersection with Pine Street and Stevens Avenue began Monday with the initial construction area on the southbound lanes of Main Street and a short distance west on Pine Street and Stevens Avenue. This phase of the project should take two weeks to complete, and then construction will switch to the northbound lanes.

Main Street traffic will be carried one lane in each direction, except on concrete placement days, when traffic will be restricted to one lane and controlled by flaggers. Two-way traffic will be temporarily allowed on Stevens Avenue east of Garden City Avenue.

J-A-G Construction Co., Dodge City, is the contractor for this project. The $587,080 project is jointly funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the city of Garden City. Other phases of the project will replace the existing pavement with new nine-inch concrete pavement at the Main and Walnut intersection, extend concrete on Main Street south of Kansas Avenue, and later this fall will finish with a slurry seal on the remaining asphalt pavement between Kansas Avenue and Fulton Street.
