A former branch manager of Landmark National Bank in Garden City has been charged with embezzling more than $99,999 from the bank, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Tuesday.

According to a press release sent from the District of Kansas Office of the U.S. Attorney, Sheri L. Green, 52, Garden City, was charged with one count of misapplication of bank funds. The indictment alleges that she stole the money from the bank over a period of time from Aug. 16 to Dec. 26, 2012, prompting an FBI investigation into the matter.

If convicted, Green faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch is prosecuting the case.

Jim Cross, public affairs officer for the District of Kansas' Office of the U.S. Attorney, said that as of Tuesday, no court date has been scheduled for Green but that it is expected to be scheduled sometime this week.

Landmark National Bank President Michael Scheopner did not return calls seeking comment, and Green could not be reached for comment.
