Overnight rain much needed

The overnight drizzle on Tuesday remains on par with the yearly average inches of rainfall in Garden City.

Garden City Regional Airport recorded .85 inches of rainfall from 2 to 6 a.m., also the total number of inches so far in November.

The month of November receives an average of .54 inches of rain in Garden City, but in a four-hour span, the inch count was over a quarter of an inch ahead.

"Getting that much rain is going to improve the overall deficit," said Mary Knapp, state climatologist.

The city received 1.27 inches all of October.

According to Ray Burgert, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Dodge City, from Jan. 1 to Nov. 5, a total of 14.55 inches of rain has fallen in Garden City,

The yearly average is 18.5 inches.

Both Scott and Kearny counties received a quarter to a half inch of rain Tuesday night, according to the weather service. Gray County received a half to 1.45 inches of rain.

"Nothing heavy is slated to come," Burgert said. "Everything is moving west to east."

From today until Nov. 14, there is less than a 20 percent chance of precipitation, with winds ranging from 11 to 25 mph.
