The Garden City Elite American Legion Post No. 9 completed its Pool Play schedule with an unblemished 3-0 mark to advance to Sunday's semifinal of the Jim Clanton Memorial Baseball Tournament 19 & Under Division.

The Elite doesn't know its opponent for Sunday's 1 p.m. game, which will be played at Williams Stadium, as Saturday's schedule was pushed well behind the original timeline due to torrential rainfalls overnight Friday that forced tournament officials to reset the entire Saturday slate.

Williams Field was unplayable on Saturday, but by the end of the day, was ready for Sunday's final day of the 27th edition of the Clanton Memorial. Academy Field, just across Campus Drive from Williams, wasn't ready for play until 1 p.m. That left Clint Lightner Stadium, which just earlier this spring had artificial turf installed in the infield, thus preventing all three field from being unplayable.

The Elite won its second and third games on Saturday in Pool A, defeating the Goodland Outlaws late Friday, 9-5, and then defeating Hooker, Okla., 16-2, Saturday morning. By virtue of tiebreakers used to seed teams into Sunday's bracket play, the Elite got the No. 2 seed behind Lamar, Colo., which had yielded just three runs in three games to win the first tiebreak rule.

The championship game for the 19 & Under Division is set for 3 p.m. at Williams Stadium while the 16 & Under title game will be played at 3 p.m. at Clint Lightner Stadium. The 14 & Under division was playing a round-robin with the six teams.
