A pickup truck being driven at a high rate of speed crashed into a home and injured a resident early Saturday morning.

The Garden City Police Department, Finney County EMS and Garden City Fire and Rescue responded at 2:25 a.m. to the reported hit-and-run accident at 403 E. Edwards St., where a pickup had driven into a residence and was immersed inside.

According to police, the driver of the pickup was southbound on Eighth Street from Moores Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver attempted to turn east on Edwards Street and lost control of the vehicle, striking the residence in an occupied bedroom.

Police say the driver fled the area on foot prior to officers' arrival. One resident who was in the bedroom was struck by the vehicle and sustained a foot injury that required medical treatment on the scene. Police have not yet released the name of the person who was injured. No injuries were severe or life threatening, according to police.

Utilities to the residence were turned off and the home is uninhabitable until repairs are made. Damage was estimated to be around $75,000. The investigation is ongoing as officers are attempting to locate the driver.
