A local man was arrested early Sunday morning at a local bar after sheriff's deputies walked in on a situation involving assault with a deadly weapon.

While performing a bar check at 1:11 a.m. Sunday at the El Maguey Club, 3455 E. U.S. Highway 50, two Finney County Sheriff's deputies entered the men's bathroom and saw Rey Diaz, 42, Point Comfort, Texas, with his back against the wall while Joel Valladares-Rivera, 39, Garden City, was wielding a knife and threatening Diaz, according to Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue.

Valladares-Rivera was taken into custody by deputies without incident and lodged in the Finney County Jail on an allegation of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Bond for Valladares-Rivera was set at $25,000.
