Kendall church to celebrate milestone

Kendall church to celebrate milestone

A special celebration is planned for Sunday in recognition of the Kendall United Methodist Church's 100 years.

The day will begin with a regular church service at 8:30 a.m. MT in the church sanctuary, followed by a special program at 10 a.m. There will be an old-fashioned hymn sing, an appearance by a circuit rider, a pictorial video, and an old-fashioned horse and buggy.

A catered lunch will follow at noon MT at the Kendall Community Building. A free-will offering will be taken for the meal. After the meal, there will be cake and homemade ice cream available.

Commemorative Christmas ornaments have been designed and will be available for sale. Copies of the pictorial video history of the church also will be available for purchase and will include a printed history of the church.

Homelessness to be discussed

The impact of homelessness on children will be explored at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lifetree Cafe, 3101 Campus Drive.

The program, "Children With No Place To Call Home: Helping Kids In Crisis," features a filmed visit with homeless children and their parents, as well as with agency workers who assist homeless children.

An estimated one in 50 children is homeless. Approximately 40 percent of those children are 5 years old or younger.

"We see children who have lived in a car or outside, or who have spent time living from shelter to shelter, or hotel to hotel," said Jennifer Herrera, executive director of Colfax Community Network, a homeless-outreach agency. "It makes me angry because we can do better."

Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages will be available.

Lifetree Cafe is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual coffeehouse-type setting.

Questions about Lifetree may be directed to Craig Cable at (970) 292-4838 or
