Pastor to speak on book

Pastor to speak on book

Kent Crockett, the founding pastor of Cornerstone Church in Garden City, has written his seventh book. "Slaying Your Giants: Biblical Solutions to Everyday Problems" has been published nationwide this month.

People today must conquer invisible giants before they can enjoy life, Crockett said in a press release, noting that fear, worry, depression, rejection, unforgiveness and doubt are a few of the 20 invisible giants that attack people. The book gives advice from the Bible concerning how to defeat each destructive attitude.

"So many people are not enjoying life and I want to show them how they can," Crockett said. "It's actually a fun-to-read book. I've included fascinating true stories throughout the book and even some humor to keep the reader turning the pages. When you read how others killed their giants, you will start believing that you can do it too."

"Slaying Your Giants" is actually a revised and updated version of his bestselling book, "The 911 Handbook."

"When my 911 book was first published in 1997, I started receiving phone calls and letters from people all over the country, telling me how much they loved the book," Crockett said. "I ended up receiving calls and letters from people living in over 30 states."

The book was so popular that Hendrickson Publishers asked Crockett to update it with a new title, new chapters and fresh information. "Over half the information in the book is new," Crockett said. "I believe 'Slaying Your Giants' is even better than 'The 911 Handbook' because I've added more insights and captivating stories."

Crockett has another book coming out in August with Chosen Books, "The Sure Cure for Worry." The foreword is written by former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman.

"My writing is a unique combination of problem-solving and entertainment," Crockett said. "I think people get more out of an advice book if they enjoy what they're reading."

"Slaying Your Giants" is available at The Family Bookhouse in Garden City.
