Genealogical Society

The Finney County Genealogical Society will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the library of the Finney County Historical Society Museum.

Jan Coulter will give the lesson "Finney County and Kansas Quiz."

Visitors are welcome.

Senior center pinochle

Jeanette Taylor won high in the four tables of senior center pinochle played Wednesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Second place went to Floyd Horn. Charles Maxfield took third.

VFW council

The Department of Kansas, Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary will have its State Mid-Summer Council of Administration meeting Aug. 2 to 4 in Parsons.

Meetings will commence on Friday evening with discussions on the many programs of the VFW, such as Veterans Service, Americanism, Community Service and Youth Activity programs, for the 2013-14 year.

After the council meetings on Saturday, a VFW officers training seminar will take place. Classes will be held for post, district and state VFW officers and chairmen concerning current programs and related reports.

A reception, picnic and entertainment will be held Saturday night honoring State Commander Lynn W. Rolf III from Leavenworth and State Auxiliary President Ethel Maske from Wichita.

Shirley Klotz won high in the two tables of senior center bridge played Friday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Betty Harsh took second place. Third went to Carol Bradford.
